Customized Publishing Support

For authors seeking support through the journey, whether for traditional, hybrid, or self-publishing.

The process:

The whole rationale of this approach is to customize it to your needs, but here are some of the ways I’ve worked with authors in the past, whether à la carte or from soup to nuts:

  • Review of any draft materials you have prepared (e.g., book description, outline, sample material)

  • 90-minute kick-off call, a standing weekly or biweekly meeting throughout the writing process, and additional communication via email and calls as needed till the book is published

  • Concept development stage

  • Developmental editing stage

  • Navigating publishing pathways—for example, sounding the market for agents; narrowing down a list of appropriate potential publishers and researching how to contact them

  • If self-publishing, presentation of options for additional freelance or automated support (copy editing, proofreading, interior & cover design, marketing & publicity)

  • Presentation of options for book publication and distribution (e.g., self-publish through Kindle Direct Publishing or Ingram Spark; consider using a high-quality hybrid publisher)

  • Wish to secure an agent or a traditional publishing contract but lack the time to pursue this on your own

  • Could use a liaison with agents or editors

  • Already have a publishing contract, but the process has stalled out or gotten messy

For traditional publishing, perfect if you:

For hybrid or self-publishing, perfect if you:

  • Have a particular timeline on which you’d like to publish your book, especially if that’s in 18 months or less

  • Do not have an author platform

  • Would like to retain maximum control over your book’s title, cover design, descriptive copy, and marketing

  • Are a savvy self-promoter who would like to retain a higher percentage of the book’s revenue than you’d get in royalties from a traditional publisher

PRICE & TIMELINE

This service varies too much to have a set starting price. It can range from the hundreds to $40,000+, and the final scope depends on:

  • desired publishing pathway (traditional, hybrid, or self-publishing)

  • manuscript length

  • depth of editing needed

  • if I’m collaboratively writing or ghostwriting in addition to other services

  • timeline

6-18 months, depending on author’s availability, length and complexity of the manuscript, and publishing pathway. (Traditional publishers typically set the publication date, whereas hybrid or self-publishing offer more flexibility.)
